Description

From the junction of the Eagle Trail heading south and after a short easy climb, it's a swooping descent on a smooth ranch road with few surprises. The trail gets steep just before reaching a creek bottom, so use caution in this section of the trail. Follow the creek a short distance past the junction with Stone Corral Trail. This section is part of the Volvon Loop.

Continue across paved Morgan Territory Road to stay on Highland. From here the trail climbs steadily, in shade at the start, past the junctions with the Clyma Trail and Raven Trail. From the paved road to ridgetop is about 1.7 mi. with 10% average grade and a few steep sections.

From the ridgetop it's a long rolling descent over an exposed grass-covered ridge with nice views all around. The Raven Trail rejoins Highland from the north then Jeremiah Trail from the south. When the trail reaches the Morgan Ridge Road junction, it's within the boundary of Mt. Diablo State Park.

Continue across Old Finley Road and climb some challenging hills to reach a gate at the border of the park and private property.
