“A short and steep access route to the Elkhorn Crest Trail.
”
The trail starts at a turnaround on Forest Road #5536-200 at the top of a small knoll. It contours along the south side of the ridge above the road and then descends to an open saddle before the steady and continuous climb starts, following the south side of the ridge again through a stand of old growth ponderosa pine.
As you pedal up, the trail follows mostly open and dry terrain along the steep ridgeline to the Elkhorn Crest. There are good views south and west towards Sumpter and the rolling hills beyond.
