“This trail connects Ward Creek State Park to Stanford Rock Trail- without getting your feet wet.”
— S. Lengyel
Easy grades and wide trails recently realigned by CCC crews. Few technical obstacles and some forest information kiosks.
This trail is one of several recently rerouted trails in Ward Creek State Park. This is a great connector to Stanford Rock Trail
and provides a gentle warm up before the big climb. It is also a much better way to cross Ward Creek in the spring when the water level is high.
There are two trail entrances off the bike path on Highway 89. The north entrance is approximately 100 yards south of the Ward Creek Bridge. The south entrance is approximately 100 yards north of Timberland Lane.
Ward Creek State Park recently (2012-2013) had a major wildfire fuels reduction project and complete realignment of its trail system by CCC crews. While not an MTB destination in itself, Ward Creek State Park has a few miles of wider trails that make a great warm up for Stanford Rock, or an easy cruise or hike.
We also use this trail to access the Tahoe Rim Trail from Highway 89 rather than riding on the pavement up Ward Creek Road. Since this trail was built, we haven't used the traditional entrance for Stanford Rock off of Ward Creek road.
It's a nice connector for longer rides or a great place for dog walks, hikes, short trail runs or riding with kids.
