The Tennessee River Gorge trail wraps around the north side of the campground near the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Facility. The trail features good flow with a minimal number of roots, and except for the initial descent down to (or up to) the parking area, it is pretty flat.
You'll catch great views of the Tennessee River Gorge below through breaks in the trees or there are a few short side trails after you pass the mile mark that lead to bluffs overlooking the river.
At the far end of the trail you can continue onto the Laurel Point
trail which passes near the parking area where the Tennessee River Gorge trail starts.
This trail also intersects with the easier Electric Avenue 1
and Electric Avenue 2
trails as well as the Megawatt
trail. Just past the intersection with the Tennessee River Gorge Trail, Megawatt
traverses some large rocks inlaid into the large dam forming one of the signature features of the Raccoon Mountain trials.
