Dogs Leashed
Family Friendly
This wide, flat and paved path is the perfect easy option for families. The views are incredible!
The western section from Hermit's Rest to just before the path stops paralleling Hermit Road to head towards Pima Point is not open to bikes. Bikes are allowed on the section of the Hermit Road Greenway from Pima Point to the Monument Creek Vista.
Overview
The Hermit's Road section of the Greenway Trail is a true gem. The only trail in Grand Canyon that is open to bikes, this trail has some of the best viewpoints of the Grand Canyon that you can see from the South Rim.
Description
This paved portion of the Rim Trail is open to bicycles and Class 1 and Class 3 e-bikes. It is the section between Monument Creek Vista and the junction with Hermit Road about 1/4 mile east of the Hermit's Rest. This gentle path has very little change in elevation making it an easy cruise. The scenery is wonderful and on a quiet day from Pima Point you can hear the Colorado crashing through Granite Rapid far below.
Bikes can also travel the Hermit Road, which is closed to private vehicles for most of the year. Shuttle and tour buses do utilize the road, so cyclists should pull to the right shoulder in a safe location, dismount and let buses pass.
Because the Rim Trail is not open to bikes east of Monument Creek Vista, riding the road is a common way to access the Greenway portion. The buses are bike-friendly, so you if you get tired you can load your bike and take the shuttle for free. There are plenty of bus stops along the Hermit Road.
