Description

This is a 30-mile plus old freight road from Atglen to its terminus along the Susquehanna River.

The trail was constructed from 1903 to 1906 by the PA Railroad. A feat of engineering, the trail never exceeded 1% grade, all the way from Chester County to the State Capitol, Harrisburg.

The trail was built using dangerous blasting techniques, as well as restructuring the surface using complicated scaffolding to accommodate a flat rail bed.
