Conquer the biggest climbs in the park on Border Trail.

LHORBA MTB

Description

This trail loops the outer perimeter of the Park. The upper side is generally intermediate while the lower side is rockier and more advanced.

The trail can be accessed from numerous points along the Nature Trail or other connecting trails to ride all or parts of it. The trail can be confusing at points so below are some of the key highlights.

Beginning from the gap at the Park entrance road and riding counterclockwise, you hit the first of several crossings of the Nature Trail and pass the entrance to Three Bridges before starting the upper side climb. Two low, mandatory skinnies cross some swampy area at the base of the climb. When breaking out into the field, it appears that you are in someones back yard, but you are still in the Park. The trail entrance into the woods, going either direction, can be hard to spot at times.

After cresting the peak, there is a sharp right turn at the base of the hill along the field before you would hit the Nature Trail.

A twisty gradual climb will take you to a narrow rock garden at the top end of the Park. The trail takes an immediate right at the log crossing at the end of the rock garden onto a quad trail. Watch for an sharp indistinct left a few hundred feet in.

The downhill inside the Nature Trail dumps you out into an open area on the upper side of the BMX track. The trail then follows a very rough section in the narrow strip of woods between the BMX service road and the Nature Trail.

At the end of the adjacent BMX field, the trail crosses the Nature Trail and follows the top edge of a steep hillside before beginning a multiple switchback descent to the tombstones of graveyard turn. After following the base of the hill, a longer climb begins with a crossing of an old logging road where you enter the steep sidehill goat path section. At the top of the climb, a leg branches back sharply left to Nature Trail, but the main continues ahead.

A more gradual rocky descent will take you along a recently timbered area before and after crossing the north end of the gas line.

After bending back into the woods, you'll soon cross a rocky stream crossing and begin a gradual climb along the western edge of the park. After passing the entrance to the New Loop, you'll enter a brushy area that empties you out onto the eastern end of the grassy gas line. After crossing the gas line diagonally, the trail continues into the corner of the wooded area ahead and on up to the Park entrance road.
