“The Lake Hickory Trail system is a local favorite with great lake views for a great weekend loop or after work spin.”
— Jeremy Saylor
Park in the parking lot with the tennis courts. Follow the Greenway past the gate. The top trailhead will be on your left. This part of the trail is fun, fast and flowy with a nice, brief downhill section. Be prepared for a small man-made log obstacle about a quarter mile in.
Follow the trail and pick any path at the fork. All will lead back down across a bridge, then a little further down will be a smaller bridge and a chance to test your jumping skills.
Next will be a switchback climb, another fun but small downhill run, then a smaller switchback section that dumps you out at the future pump-track site. Cross the Greenway slightly to the left for another easy, mostly level section. You'll eventually cross the Greenway again for more of the same type of easy trail that leads to an intermediate, hilly, technical section, then another curvy, switchback climb where you'll have a choice of taking a shortcut to the Greenway or staying to the left for a fast, flowing section that eventually runs along the lake before a leg-burning climb back out.
At this point, you'll be on a paved section in front of the Boy Scout hut. Make a left in front of the bench for another fun section before dumping back out on the Greenway. Cross the Greenway for the last leg of the trail loop. This is a gradual, rooty climb back up to the top. You'll then be able to choose to go back into the top trailhead or go back to the parking lot.
