The approach to the 2nd cattle guard can be a little wet and soft during the thaw/freeze routine so common with Arkansas winters. Gravel has been added when this occurs.
Description
This optional red loop begins by crossing one of three cattle guard crossings. After crossing the 1st cattle guard you'll be on the edge of a field. The optional "Mansion Field Loop" skirts this field. Skipping the Mansion Field Loop segment keeps riders in the woods at the field's edge. After crossing a second cattle guard, riders come upon an intersection which includes the third cattle guard crossing.
Taking a left at the intersection and crossing the cattle guard skips the downhill, stream crossing, and climb portion of this red loop. Live on the wild side and go straight (see big wooden red arrow on ground). The stream crossing is bridged by a metal gate with wire paneling attached. Take it slow on this descent to the stream until you feel comfortable. The climb out is not bad. Just put it in a low gear and pedal. Endurance is needed but technical skills can be left at the trailhead. YOU CAN DO IT!
