This road travels through the Otay Mountain Wilderness, only travel on designated roads.

It's the best trail for a long, tough climb with awesome scenery. The trail starts off around 600 ft above sea level and ends up just above 3,500 ft after 6.2 miles. The view at the top is awesome overlooking Jamul, Tijuana, and Chula Vista.

Need to Know

Watch out for vehicles and off road activities. There are some blind turns. Proceed with caution. Border Patrol is regularly patrolling the area by trucks and choppers. Nothing to worry about as they can always provide assistance if needed.

This is Minnewawa Truck Trail that some incorrectly refer to Otay Mesa Truck Trail. It's an unpaved, well-maintained fire road, shared by trucks, ATVs, dirt bikes, mountain bikers, and Border Patrol. Park at the Pio Pic Country Store and the trailhead is just off to the right (if you're facing east).

Minnewawa Truck Trail connects to Otay Mesa Truck Trail at Dog House Junction. Continue south Past the junction to reach Otay Mesa Peak.

The ride is about 6.2 miles long, all climbing with average 9 to 15% incline. The view at the top is awesome overlooking Jamul, Tijuana, and Chula Vista.

It's just a gravel road. Sucks. May 18, 2016
LOL I have to agree. It's not really for mountain biking it's more of an endurance deal and a road bike with hybrid tires may be more appropriate. There is a much better area east of the snack shack just through the RV park. Go to the end, past the gate (be careful with the barbed wire) and NE up the hill, great scenery and you don't have to climb 1500 feet either. But no side trails, all road. Apr 29, 2017

Great ride on a Gravel / Cyclocross Bike. Probably a bit too boring & smooth on a Mountain bike. Dec 3, 2017
