Description

This is one of the best trails in Los Alamos county. The trail forks off the West Perimeter Trail above Yucca St. The trail begins by climbing up a somewhat rocky section before navigating 2 rideable switchbacks. From there it flattens out for a hundred yards of rolling singletrack before dropping through a short ravine. It then climbs up a short bit before crossing a second ravine and turns north. The trail climbs steadily for a half mile before passing through a technical rock section that is rideable.

The trail then turns west again as it climbs through the newly planted trees. A hundred yards up there is a fork in the trail where the LA Mountain Trail turns left and climbs to the peak. The trail descends from this point to the right through a meadow with a fairly dense thicket of New Mexico locusts, so beware, their thorns hurt.

From this point the trail curves to the east and begins the descent back to Perimeter to Walnut Canyon at the top of Arizona street. This section is a fun descent with smaller berms on the corners. From there you can loop back on Perimeter to the start, or continue down Perimeter to the north and other trails near town.
