Update

A fun area to ride with great views of Zion and Pine Valley Mountains.

Overview

The Whole Guacamole trail is a lot of fun to ride with some singletrack thrown in and lots of slick rock type riding and technical features. Trail finding can be challenging in a few areas so watch for small rock cairns.

Need to Know

Dalton Wash Rd off Rte 9 can be very thick with dust. If it is wet, I would not attempt trying to drive to the trailhead as the road gets extremely steep and rutted.

Description

The Whole Guacamole has a little bit of everything for riders. Start out on slickrock and move to singletrack then as you venture further out on the loops more technical pieces start popping up. The outer loop has some very nice singletrack with gravelly type trail tread. Watch for the small rock cairns to find your way. There are some white dots on the rock to help with trail finding but don't rely on those.

Folks generally ride the loops clockwise but they can be ridden in either direction.

The views are spectacular to boot. You are almost touching West Temple and Mount Kinesava in Zion National Park. Looking out the valley towards the Pine Valley Mountains on the west side of St. George is pretty stunning. You'll pass a very interesting looking cinder cone on this ride.

Lots of beautiful sagebrush and juniper are present and they smell pretty sweet after a rain. Desert wildflowers also bloom on the mesa and that adds to the beauty of the red rock.

Owls, hawks and condor can be seen on this ride.

History & Background

A lot of petrified wood on this ride which is pretty cool.

Any local group rides out in Bryce or Zion area that I could hook up with when I come out in September? Jun 9, 2016

This is an outstanding trail. Four of us spent three days in Hurricane area and this was our final ride after Gooseberry Mesa one day and Goulds Rim/JEM the next. The topography is otherworldly. This is not a flowy fast ride like you'll find at JEM. It requires close attention to the trail for first-timers and nearly everything is rideable for strong riders who trust their tires. Road to the TH can be a bumpy ride but we made it with a Ford Focus taking it slow. Did the Whole Guacamole (featured). It was a fun loop to challenge the abilities. Highly suggest having the app handy as there is zero trail signage. Cairns helped most of the way, but on the way out we ended up taking a couple of the cutoffs and back-tracking since the loop back to Margarita isn't as intuitive. Apr 18, 2017
