From the highway, the trail climbs for about 0.5 miles to Big Meadow. Follow the trail through the meadow, across a creek and back into the evergreen forest. After another mile and a half, the trail descends roughly 250 feet through a beautiful aspen stand to a junction. Keep straight (left fork) to stay on the TRT and follow it past a cool Volcanic rock wall.
Another short uphill will bring you to Round Lake. Take in the views on offer at the lake before ascending to a bench where the trail's grade will undulate until the junction with the PCT.
