Description

There are several ways to get to this trail, but the most popular is using the Burnt Wagon Basin-West Mountain jeep trail. This road is not in great shape so if you are in doubt, just park and ride to the start of the trail.

The trail stays on a ridge offering great views of the surrounding mountains. Within a mile, the Wilson Corrals #135 turns east through a meadow where the trail will be difficult to find. Shortly thereafter, the trail parallels Rock Lake and crosses several unnamed creeks. The trail ascends a ridge, reaches a road closed sign and intersects the unsigned Greenfield Flat Trail from the northwest.

Within another mile, the unsigned Campbell Creek Trail and unsigned Skein Lake Trail also intersect the Wilson Creek Trail. At the Skein Lake Trail intersection, the Wilson Creek Trail turns abruptly southwest and within a mile intersects the unsigned West Mountain Trail where it ends.

At times, a lot of cows can be grazing in the area so beware of faint trails when in the open meadows. This trail is currently only cleared every three years by the FS, but the Idaho Youth Conservation Corps and the Back Country Horsemen are working to keep it cut out more often.

Tried riding this trail today. At the junction of Van Wyck Trail 118 where the single track and non motorized trail should start is a UTV/ATV trail all the way to Lookout Mountain and almost to Rock Lake. Not until you get just north of Rock Lake 1/3 of a mile or so do you hit single track trail. It is very difficult to find and has not been cleared for many years. Absolutely beautiful country.
