Description

This trail is a nice moderate trail accessed from Council. The trail sees moderate use from hikers and horseback riders, but is only maintained currently on a three year cycle. Usually the trees will get cut out by horse groups especially come summer time.

This trail is best done as an out and back, but you can use the FS road to the west as a way to create a nice easy loop if you want to do most of your climbing on forest service roads.

The trail will have some challenging water crossing in the early spring, but will be one of the first trails to open up in the early summer so it is a great destination in June. The trail is not super technical, but does have rocks throughout its length. You'll start the trail with a number of water crossing and then in the middle sections your feet will dry out right before the two crossing right at the end of the trail.

Hit up the Grouse Creek Trail while you are in the area for some extra miles.

Some nice vistas from the upper portion of the trail
Jul 13, 2018 near Cascade, ID
After joining the old road bed, it's like a whole different (and way more fun) trail. Better views, better riding, minimal hike-a-bike.

The hike-a-bike across a steep, loose rocky trail to avoid toppling down the 20-30' cliff to the right. Good views though.

The steep, loose, barely walkable hike-a-bike that continues off picture to the upper left. (Pictures flatten things, but hiking this in MTB shoes wasn't trivial)

First part of the trail, just past the thistle garden and going up a small hill.
