Description
Start from the cul de sac at the end of Mesquite Drive (but don't park in the circle). Climb the steep incline below the water tank to gain the dry hillside above the houses. Already the views of Edwards below and the ski areas across the valley are worthwhile. Almost immediately, the smooth packed dirt trail intersects with the
Mesquite Spur trail to the left (west). Wind around across the parched, brushy landscape and past a few fence lines. Please respect the revegetation efforts and stay off the closed former trails in this area.
Reach the ridge and bike more north now, enjoying the views eastwards down into the Singletree neighborhoods. Once you pass through a break in the fence, you enter National Forest land. From here there are a few new switchbacks that gently ascend the hillside and reduce erosion that plagued the old straight shot trail. Views to the west include the Berry Creek drainage. The Mesquite Trail ends at a junction with the Edmunds Powerline Road. This playful trail is a good way to access the network of doubletrack roads throughout the foothills.
This is a multi-use trail so expect to share it with runners and hikers.
