Knucklehead is the result of a partnership between KYMBA, the local community and the privately owned Life Adventure Center. There is a nice trailhead and the trails are well maintained.
A quintessential showcase of all the types of Kentucky singletrack with novel features such as old stone fences which the trail, at certain points, flows with and over. Expect hills, creek crossing, and trails covering the whole spectrum of XC style difficulty.
You begin by riding out from the parking area through open forest and fields. Then the descent begins and you switchback down and down into darker and darker forest. Eventually, you'll reach the creek at the bottom of a steep limestone drainage which empties directly into the Kentucky River (not on trails). From hear a plenthra of loops offering challenges for all levels allows for one big loop or an alla carte style ride. There is now even a 'Party Loop' which includes many fun features while allowing a conversational pace on what would be a 10 to 20 minute loop from the parking lot.
You could combine this ride with the also local Capitol View Park and/or West Sixth Farm for a full day.
The mapped distance for all combined loops as of August 2020 is approximately 9 miles
