Description

Ma Maki is a good way to connect the bottom of Mango back over to Stairway to Heaven.

From Manganese Road, the trail starts its overall gradual climb. It passes the bottom intersection with Mango, continuing uphill through fairly open and dry forest. You'll pedal over a few short rock slabs. The forest eventually closes in and gets more lush.

There will be a couple of drainage crossings, the second is a new rock causeway placed in tight trees and dark forest.

After passing the Say Hello intersection, Ma Maki becomes more rocky with some roots. The dense forest opens up a bit before the last steep and punchy climb to the intersection of Der We Went.

From here there are many options. Stay right to connect Der We Went to Stairway to Heaven down to the main trailhead in Copper Harbor. Stay left to traverse up to the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge.
