Overview

This ride utilizes the great singletrack at Phipps with excellent flow and a big climb... "fitness check"!

Description

There are two loops at Phipps, Upper Loop and Lower Loop, with a connecting doubletrack. When put together, they will take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete depending on skill level and fitness.

Park at the Phipps/Diamond X parking lot adjacent to the railroad bridge on Molt Road. Choose to do the Upper Loop first and ride the big climb first, or the Lower Loop to warm up before you climb. The Upper Loop rides best clockwise while the Lower Loop flows well either direction. Both Upper and Lower trails have excellent sections of intermediate singletrack with a few sections of expert singletrack that can easily be bypassed.

History & Background

Phipps Park was originally the "Diamond X Ranch." There's an excellent viewpoint overlooking the valley where the original ranch residence once stood.

Upper loop was clean and gave awesome 360 views from the top of the rim rock. No shade in parking lot. Trail was smooth and easy to run. 3.5mi — 0h 50m

Trail not well marked. Quite confusing on where to go, ended up giving up and heading by back to the car.
