“The best singletrack in Columbus, GA - hard packed and flowing!”
— samuel stroud
This trail combines interval climbing with flowing flat and downhill sections. The surface is mostly hard packed with several rootier sections. Because of the surface of Ft Benning, the trail drains great and is normally rideable with in 48 hrs of even the heaviest rainstorms.
Need to Know
If you do not hold a military/retired or DOD civilian ID, you'll have to get a visitor pass to enter Ft. Benning.
There are two parking locations:
To get to the Golf course parking area, enter the main gate, stay on Dixie Hwy towards the main post and take a right at the Golf course (1st Div Road). The parking is about 200 yards up on the right.
To get to the Stowers parking area, again you must enter through the main gate, stay right on Dixie Hwy towards main post, take a right on 1st Cavalry Division road (Bouton Hts Housing area) and follow it down to the intersection of Stowers. The parking is on the corner (this parking area is primary on weekends).
Though the map and the trail are easy to follow, there are organized rides every SAT and SUN (weather dependent). Saturday rides are in the morning, and Sunday rides (Dirt Church) are in the afternoon. To see exact times, please follow the Fort Benning Mountain Bike Trail Facebook Page.
Fort Benning MTB Trail is a hand built, 18 inch wide singletrack with 98% of the trail being covered. This trail has everything from fast flowing downhills to short interval climbs with several man-made and natural technical features, including several 12" plus log overs.
One of the main features of the trail is the downsloping bridge and a wood jump section. The two jumps are for more ad level riders and there is a ride around.
The Fort Benning MTB Trail is ridden counter clockwise from either parking lot. Major turns are marked by red 4x4 posts with directional arrows.
If you are an MTB purist, this is the trail for you, currently at 9.5 miles with plans for 10 more in the future.
