Getting forecast...

Farlow Gap is often touted as one of the toughest mountain bike trails in the Pisgah Nat'l Forest.

Features -none-

Wouldn't recommend dogs. No horseback riding is permitted on any of the trails surrounding the fish hatchery, so you can let your guard down.

Description

Just whispering this trail's name can either stoke excitement or fear into the hearts of mountain bikers. Farlow is notoriously the most difficult trail in Pisgah...

The trail is very strenuous at times, and its tread has tree roots and loose rocks along much of its length. However, it has great variety in scenery and vegetation. You'll cross several streams and three ridges (the crossings of Shuck Ridge Creek and the Right Fork of the Davidson River are difficult). You'll also move from a forest of cove hardwoods, such as yellow poplar and red oak, to an upland hardwood forest of oak, black gum and red maple. Small waterfalls, cascades, and an old mica mine near the trail below Farlow Gap are points of interest.

Though it may be tempting at times, please do not leave the main trail, because shortcutting switchbacks causes erosion.

Hope that your suspension is dialed and in good working order, along with your brakes. Then all you need to do is hang on and enjoy the ride!

Crazy hard ridiculous technical descent that requires a fair amount of walking and incredibly long climb to get to it. Some people enjoy this trail, but I just feel that the downhill payoff for the long climb isn't worth it like Laurel-Pilot for example. Aug 17, 2017
This is a fantastic tech descent. It's a pretty long gravel grind to the top, but these turns and gnar are worth earning. Bring your A game, because it's steep, rocky, and has big league creek crossings that req Oct 25, 2017
