Muddy - 3/18/18-Rideable but upper trail was super muddy and full of cow pies. Lol! Expect a tricky ride until it dries out. History

Overview

Closed Mondays. Closed half hour after sunset.
Awesome views of the Silicon Valley, San Jose, and SF Bay. On a clear day you can spot San Francisco. Cows grazing won't hurt you. Beautiful sunsets during evening rides.

Can be hot during summer days as there is little shade. Some fairly short steep sections will test you.

Description

Start on Penitencia Creek Trail. Winds along in the trees along the creek. Cross bridge over creek, then cross Penitenci Creek Rd. to Creek Trail, Eagle Rock Trail, and N. Rim Trail. Optional go left on Eagle Rock Trail to lookout with about 200 feet of climbing or stay right on N. Rim Trail.

Left on Todd Quick Trail which is singletrack with 6 switchbacks. This trail ends at a picnic table shaded by tall Eucalyptus trees.

Go through the gate to Baccardo Loop Trail. Steep challenge for about 100 yards. Stay right at intersection. (Talking loop trail to the left is VERY steep.) There will be a short very steep section followed by a level section for a 1/4 mile. Then singletrack with some switchbacks up the grassy hill with cows grazing.

Near top go right on Sierra Vista Trail, next left on Kestra Trail. .25 miles to a parking lot near top of mountain.

Cross Sierra Road for 1.2 mile Aquila Loop Trail. Recommend clockwise direction.

History & Background

Kestral and Aquila Loop Trail along with parking near top of mountain on Sierra Road just opened in August of 2014.
