Overview

The Larison Rock Loop is a classic Oakridge ride. It's a great option for those who want to 'earn their turns' on a super fun, shreddy descent. The singletrack is well worth the effort of pedaling up.

The downhill part of the ride is both beautiful and thrilling. Expect big forest with giant moss covered trees and rowdy singletrack that hugs the constantly changing steep hillsides.

Although this ride can be done as a loop, Larison Rock can also be done as a shuttle. Check out Oregon Adventures to arrange a ride to the top.

Need to Know

Larison Rock is a two-way trail but is most often ridden in the downhill direction. Be aware of speed through corners and the (slight) potential for uphill users.

Description

Start from Greenwaters Park and pedal across the bridge. Roll out on the Greenwaters trails and turn left on La Duke Rd (5852). Stay straight at Hwy 21 and pedal a quick section of pavement before turning right onto Larison Rock Rd (2102).

Climb up Larison Rock Road to the start of the trail - right hand side of the road.

First timers should stay left on the trail to begin and pedal/push/hike up to the Larison Rock viewpoint. The vista is definitely worth the effort.

Ride back down to catch the main trail and start the ride in earnest.

The main Larison Rock trail starts with a moderate descent on tight singletrack through big moss covered trees, contouring across steep hillsides.

The route then transitions to a steep descent down the nose of a ridge before rolling out to traverse across the top of a connecting ridge. Larison Rock then goes back to more fast sections of narrow bench cut trail on steep side slopes.

The lower reaches get a little rowdy at times. The terrain is a mix between steep, chunky trail and tight singletrack that ducks in and out of drainages. Beware of your speed around blind corners and exposure on the downside of the trail.

Larison Rock trail ends at La Duke Rd. To head back to town, turn right on La Duke Rd and then stay left at Greenwaters Trail back to the park and the beginning of the ride.
