“South-facing alternative connection to Barney Ford Trail between Moonstone and Sallie Barber Roads”— D L
Electric Mountain Bikes Unknown
From the top of Moonstone Trail, at Moonstone Road and the bottom of Barney Ford trail, there is a junction on the eastern side of the road. Take a right and climb to a crossing of Baldy Road near Boreas Pass Road. The trail turns left and parallels Baldy Road to a pedestrian/bicycle overpass bridge.
Just above the bridge, the trail forks again. The right fork is Juniata Trail, the left is a connector trail across Baldy Road back to Barney Ford. Continue climbing right up a wide, rocky section.
Above this section the trail becomes more buff, climbing through aspens to Baldy Road directly across from the southwestern end of Sallie Barber Road.
The top of Barney Ford can be accessed along Sallie Barber Road to the north. Alternatively, climb paved Baldy Road until it switches back at which point Baldy Road continues due east out of the switchback as a primitive, backcountry road eventually connecting with True Romance.
Juniata is also an excellent descent. The south aspect makes the trail a better option early season. Aspens along the trail make it a great fall option as well.
