High alpine terrain may be snow covered in spring.

Description

The trail connects Hope, AK to Cooper Landing, AK. It has amazing backcountry singletrack both above and below tree-line. There are several lakes, rivers, cabins, and tent-sites along the way. There is an option to cut short by going down devil's pass trail. The lower Hope side of the trail has some roots. The middle portion of the trail above tree-line is great!

The trail is mostly non-technical, there was one climb going south to north after swan lake up to devil's pass that was the most technical for the ride in terms of rocks and elevation gain. Other than that the grade is mellow, mostly smooth.

The section between Devil's pass and Hope is a long gradual downhill that passes a number of creeks and beaver ponds up in the pass, slowly descending along the river gorge down below treeline. Views of the pass and alpine are expansive and plentiful. Once down in the trees you ride the rim of the gorge down until the grade levels off a bit. The trail becomes more rooty from here to the crossing relative to the rest of the trail. The trail then meanders through the woods and eventually follows the resurrection creek down to the more developed trail to the parking lot.

Hoping to ride this tomorrow! Jul 25, 2014
I would give this a harder rating, mostly due to length. None of the sections are particularly technically challenging but I was feeling the 18-mile climb. Also note that most people do this as a two-care shuttle with one vehicle near Hope and the other near Cooper Landing. Sep 20, 2014
