Description

From the Hermosa Creek campground, follow the main road after the gate and look for the trail on your right. This is a great out and back ride. Be aware of dirt bikers who usually go up Jones in route to Dutch Creek.

Jones Creek is a blast of a mid country ride. Can be looped or ridden as an out and back which is the most common. Climb is long but rather gradual and makes for a nice pedal. Spring and fall are the best as sometimes the brush can be overgrown enough to be hand whacking in the bottom half during summertime. Trail can be very dry and silty, especially in the burn zone, but gets seriously good when moist. The upper section is through some aspens and is high speed with roots here and there. The middle section is high speed traversing with side walls to play with and little hips. The bottom 1/3 ends up being a mix of roots and rocks and carries good speed for the rest of the way with he occasional flat spot or small uphill punch. Overall, a great ride for the gravity seekers.

Started down at HC gate. Lovely ride up. Hit first patch of snow@8800 ft. It was short. Walked the last 300 feet into meadow to prevent erosion 6.7mi — 12h 35m
