Overview

This ride is a short loop compared to the longer Mine Hill - Randol Trail loop. It's also the alternate route when Randol is closed in the winter. While the tread is easy, beginners usually hate the climb. But if you can get past the grade there are wonderful views of the mountains from the Castillero Trail. Be on the lookout for an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers.

Need to Know

Keep in mind that rangers do enforce the 15 mph speed limit, so watch your pace.

Description

The entire route is on county park dirt roads that provide a challenging climb and fantastic views! At the top of the loop, all the climbing is rewarded with a long downhill run.

Start on the Mine Hill Trail, pedaling all the way out to the Castillero Trail. Turn left and loop back east towards the intersection with Mine Hill Trail. Retrace the route back to the beginning.

History & Background

This trail encircles Mine Hill and there is plenty of evidence of the old mining days. Off Castillero there is a resort and a few buildings left at English Town.
