Super fast loops of Brown Wave and Skinny

craig campbell

E-Bikes Unknown

Features -none-

Starting from the South Parking lot, this loop highlights the best of FATS, hitting Brown Wave and Skinny which are both super-flowy.

Need to Know

If it has rained within a week or two, expect standing water at the bottom of the whoop-de-do's. Layers of pine needles litter the trail, so it makes it a little slippery.

FATS is marked very well with signs and blazing. You start out at the south parking lot and take a connector trail. Follow the signs to Brown Wave and Skinny. Both of these trails can be taken in any direction and in any order, since they all connect back up just south of the parking lot. It's very flowy with some minimally technical sections. Short, punchy climbs with lots of opportunity for speed. Your speed determines how technical this becomes.

Awesome section of trail! Very little effort climbing if you let your speed carry you through. Apr 23, 2018
Now this is World Class Riding!! I was shocked during my entire SE US tour, how amazing the trails in this region are and FATS is at the top of the list. As I understand it, they are partially machine build and the geometry is just perfect. They really seem to have used everything builders have learn over the years, FATS is a roller coaster that never tires you out. EASY climbs followed by cross slope rolling descents that prolong the pleasure in an almost unreal fashion. It just makes for such a good time. I'm looking forward to get back there and spending a week or so riding. This one should be on your list! (And if you pass close to Athens GA, catch Trail Creek while you're there.) Sep 7, 2018
This MTB Project course has the two trails ridden in a CW direction. The local SORBAcsra folks highly recommend riding CCW. "When in doubt, turn right." I rode Skinny both ways and CCW is much more fun. Feb 10, 2019
