Description
The existing lower section follows the old one closely but with a much improved tread and flow. There is a totally new upper section that connects
Frontside to Spiral Drive, crosses, and connects to
Lil Rattler.
The preferred riding direction is from top to bottom, from
Lil Rattler down to
Sgt Pepper. The new trail offers many berms, rollers and a few rock gardens; lots of flow!
Going up the new Burn Pile is still allowed, the revised trail makes for a slightly easier climb than previously, due to several grade reversals (breaks).
Downhill traffic should be cautious and courteous of uphill users, especially in some of the blind turns that still exist in the new version. Uphill users have the right-of-way. Also be aware of the crossing areas where the trail crosses Spiral Drive and
Frontside.
The old trail was approximately 0.4 miles long, the new version is around 0.7 miles. The primary reason for this redesign was to alleviate pressure and some downhill bike use on
Frontside, hoping to make
Frontside Trail a more enjoyable for hikers, runners and families.
The new Burn Pile trail was designed and built by Tony Boone Trails LLC, for Salida Mountain Trails and the City of Salida.
