Description

From the Powder Canyon side, southeast, it's an easy shaded ride up the canyon for 3/4 mile to a three-way intersection. Full-left, and severely uphill, is Purple Sage Trail. Soft-left is a dead-end service road. Straight continues Powder Canyon Rd (on the right, take notice of the narrow, steep singletrack snaking down from the highest peak, there are a number of fun singletracks starting from that highest point).

From the intersection, the wide, hard-pack road drops down steeply, swerving easily beneath large trees, then flattens out a little bit. In a quarter-mile or so, merging from the right beside the trunk of a tree, is a wide uphill singletrack, the start of another trail, the Schabarum Trail Extension.

Continuing down from there, the trail just gets wider and easier until you reach a large horse stable. To the left is a bridge to the parking lot, or to Schabarum Trail.

This trail is managed by two different agencies. From the Powder Canyon side in the south-east, to just past the intersection area, is Puente Hills Habitat Preservation Authority. From that point north to the stables is Los Angeles County Parks and Rec.
