A long, rocky, ridge line climb to the legendary Luge.

David Gregg

Overview

Description

This trail's rating bounces between green/blue (easy/intermediate), and blue (intermediate). For novice riders, this is definitely hard, but for an experienced rider, the trail is a piece of cake.

Officially, it's a fire road, but much of it would have a hard time accommodating even a pick-up truck, let alone a fire truck, so I'll call it doubletrack. It slowly climbs to the legendary trail, The Luge, never presenting more of a challenge than some crumbly rock sections, a few uphill switchbacks, and a few steep, rutted slopes. There are great views along the length of STT. The valley to the north, with its tree-filled bottom lined with houses, is Modjeska Canyon.

The trail actually continues beyond the marked end point but, technically it transitions into Joplin Truck Trail, although people often describe the entire stretch as Santiago Truck Trail.
