Description

Hankey Mountain Road (FR 425) is gated doubletrack that starts at 1840 ft. at the North River Campground off FR 96B. It climbs about 700 ft. in 2 miles and intersects with the Wild Oak Trail at the top of the ridge. Turning left at this point starts the Wild Oak Trail - Lookout Mountain segment.

The road continues to the right for 3 miles gaining 900 more ft. to the Hankey Mountain Summit (3452 ft.). This section is also holds the Wild Oak Trail designation. If your destination is toward Lookout Mountain, this is a nice out-back to add for some additional mileage. The whole road is open to hunting during some parts of the year. With several linear wildlife clearings along the way, your chances are good to see something moving up there not on wheels.
