A classic old school black diamond downhill shuttle trail.

Kevin Christopherson

Overview

This is a classic downhill trail. Dark Hollow is a true black diamond trail intended for experts. If you don't have the skills, and proper equipment, you may want to avoid this trail. I know people who have done it on xc bikes, but it worked them. You can hike-a-bike the most difficult sections and still have a great ride.

Need To Know

You can arrange a shuttle at Brian Head Resort. It's a short shuttle up to Brian Head Peak and they pick you up at the pavement at the bottom. You can also self-shuttle.

Description

If very steep chunky descents, sharp rocky switchbacks, and blistering two track are your style..This trail is for you!

It's one of the courses in the Utah Gravity Mountain Bike Race Series. Beyond the steep and technical nature of this trail, there are some spectacular mountain vistas and beautiful red rock cliffs. I have done it on an xc bike, but more travel is good. You can hike-a-bike the most difficult sections and still have a great ride. The last five miles go from singletrack to doubletrack and finally to pavement. At the end of the singletrack follow the doubletrack down to the highway, and your shuttle. Don't be bummed about the doubletrack in this description. It is fast and fun.

How many trails are there that start above timberline and end in a red rock canyon? This is a beautiful place. Dark Hollow is part of a trail network with other singletrack trails including Paradise, Scout Camp, and Hendrickson Lake.
