A standout and must-ride trail in southern California.

Overview

Description

The Skyline Trail is a great singletrack trail that traverses the mountains above Big Bear Lake and the Snow Summit Ski Resort. Beginning at the end of Dogwood Dr., where it turns to dirt, the trail immediately begins climbing the mountainside and continues to do so for 1.8 miles while often utilizing switchbacks. After another short climb the trail arrives at the top of Snow Summit before switchbacking as the trail rolls up and down alongside the side of the mountain. After being on trail for 10.2 miles you'll reach a big descent that will end with a slight uphill that exists just before the end of the trail. The trail ends as it reaches Metcalf Creek, from which point you can follow service roads back to Big Bear Lake.

Wonderful trail. I did the full out-and-back with the Grand View Overlook spur. Flowy and rolling. Climbs are constant and the downhills fleeting. 30.2mi

Will there be to much snow in the area at the start of April to do this trail? Mar 23, 2016

Loved this trail. Climb wasn't bad, and the rest of it more than made up for it. Pine Knot trail at the major trail crossing on Skyline, take down to Village area... super fun. Oct 14, 2016

It looks as if this trail leaves you quite a bit away from where you start by the end of it. Is it required to shuttle back to the starting point with a vehicle? or will this require an inevitable 16 mile return ride to the starting point? Aug 6, 2017
