A tour around A Mountain on chunky singletrack.

Dogs Unknown

Features -none-

This is a generally fast trail around the base of A Mountain in Las Cruces. It's all singletrack through a desert landscape. There are occasional rock gardens to contend with but the trail is generally well maintained and fun to ride. Quick, tight turns in close proximity to large cactus and yucca plants will keep you on your toes. Make sure you have a spare tube/patch kit because there are thorns everywhere.

There are three parking lots to access the trail from. They are all accessed from Dripping Springs road and are very easy to spot from the road. There are pavilions with trail maps at each parking lot. There are certain trails designated for hiking only so make sure you reference the maps at the parking lots to avoid those areas.

Oddly enough, I found the trail mostly (75%) smooth or loose and rocky, with a few pretty nice rock gardens here and there. I actually stopped and worked on a few of them, as I didn't get them clean the first run through. Best ridden CCW. There are a few side loops that are hard to spot, so I missed most of them. There is also a serious DH trail that goes all the way down the mtn. , but don't even bother unless you can ride everything around the base easily! Nov 20, 2013
Good ride for advanced riders mainly due to the rocky technical features. Makes for a great connection to La Maria trails for a 20 mile ride day. May 8, 2016

Fun ride. Probably 60-40 single track to double track but it is all interesting and has some great views of the nearby Organ Mountains. Lot's of small side trails that are single track and link back into the main loop. Definitely keep an eye out for them and when in doubt take them. They contain a lot of the flowier single track Jan 27, 2017
