Is it worth upgrading?

Hey everyone. So I’m still new to biking, I bought a cheap Walmart “mountain bike” just to lose weight. It’s a road master granite peak. While it’s okay for light trails I have already pushed it past it’s stock capacity on what I thought was an easy jump (think I blew a shock). Eventually I plan on getting something a little better like a diamondback hard tail, for the mean time I’m sticking with what I got. My question is, is the bike even worth upgrading? I was thinking of getting some better shocks, a new front derailleur, and better bars. Would this push it into the “acceptable” bracket for some trails or should I just stick to roads until I can afford something better? Thanks.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
