Bikepacking Suggestion

Hello All,

Perhaps you can help me with some recommendations. I bought my son, 12 years old, a fat bike for Christmas. To say he was excited is a big understatement. I would like to take him on overnight introduction backpacking trips but am at a lost for where to go. I live in Monterey, CA and to my knowledge there are no places to go. One place I was thinking of was Henry Coe park. We can ride from the ranger station (Dunne) to Manzanita Point, which is only 4ish miles each way and not steep. Once I gauge where he is we can add miles and complexity. Any help you can provide will be appreciated. I ride ALL the time but he is new and I don't want to overdue things on his first trips. I don't mind driving 200 or so miles for a good location..

Thanks....

Hello George. I'm not familiar w/ bikepacking routes near Monterey since I'm from Colorado, but I am aware of a great website for bikepackers. Within that site, it has a section for suggested routes--there are some in CA.  Here's the link:
