John F. Burke Nature Preserve
Overview
Wetland and forest combine next to the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, forming the 104 acre John F. Burke Nature Preserve. Trails are wide sandy tracks, easy to traverse. The preserve is a cooperative effort between the city of Farmers Branch, the North Texas Tollway Authority, and the Valwood Improvement Authority. Parking and admission are free, and there are trash cans and a portable toilet at the parking area. There's even a Little Free Library! However, there are no water fountains on site, so bring plenty of water! Some parts of the trails will be underwater after rains since this is lowlands, so check before you go!
