Devils Tower National Monument

Overview

Devils Tower is an incredible geologic feature that projects from the undulating prairie enveloping the Black Hills. A sacred site to more than twenty Native American tribes including the Lakota, Devils Tower is also known as Mato Tipila or Bear Lodge. Hundreds of side-by-side cracks in the rock make it one of the most exceptional crack climbing areas in North America. Aside from the rock climbing, Devils Tower offers visitors eight miles of foot trails and some incredible views. Devils Tower entices us to explore and define our place in the natural and cultural world. In fact, Devils Tower is such a special place that in 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt made Devils Tower America's First National Monument.

Please Note: There are no singletrack trails within Devils Tower National Monument that are open to mountain bikes. This page serves as a general overview of the area. If you're visiting the park and looking for places to ride, check out the Black Hills trails.

Visiting Tips

Devils Tower National Monument is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except December 25 and January 1st.

Camping & Lodging

The Belle Fourche Campground is a two loop, 50 site campground with four accessible sites and three group sites available. Potable water is available throughout the campground and in the restrooms. Picnic shelters and picnic tables are available just north of the campground.

No reservations are available for this campground. Occupation is on a first come, first served basis. There is a 14 day limit on occupancy.

Food & Drink

There are no restaurants at Devils Tower National Monument. There are several restaurants available within just a few minutes of Devils Tower.

The Belle Fourche River Campground has a picnic area available just north of the campground loop. There are picnic shelters, tables, and restrooms available.
