This trail is open to hikers and equestrian riders. Expect traffic in both directions and be prepared to yield appropriately.

Description

This trail connects the well-used Go John Trail with the lower trails in the park incuding Jasper and Slate Trail. This trail is part of the Cave Creek Bicycle Festival loop (now called the Cave Creek Cactus Classic) bike race route. The summit affords great views and a bench to sit and choke down an energy gel for the last few miles of the loop.

Two switchbacks on the way down are challenging for new riders but experienced riders will have no problem negotiating the fairly wide turns.

At the bottom of the hill, there is a short trail leading to the Cave Creek Nature Center where there are bathroom facilities and COLD WATER. The nature center has a variety very good displays on desert plants and wildlife.

The trail continues on past a childrens' play area and transitions to the Slate Trail as you cross Tonalite Drive.
