Description

This trail (and indeed, the official name of the park itself), is named after Sgt. Mark Rademacher, who was killed in action during the invasion of Granada in the 1980's. He was a resident of Wales, NY, and frequented the park. This trail is marked with chevron-shaped blazes representing a sergeant's insignia.

This trail starts at the upper parking lot. Don't take the larger trail heading out the back, but rather the smaller trail off to the rear right of the parking lot.

The trail goes through an overgrown field and then enters the woods, crossing the Lower Hunters Creek Trail at intersection 10.

It drops down a steep gully and rejoins the Lower Hunters Creek trail as it crosses a bridge over a tributary. After you cross a second tributary, you'll reach intersection 9 where you go right.

When you reach intersection 8 (after a short pop up a hillside), go straight further uphill where you reach intersection 7 with the red trail. Stay left and head uphill until you reach intersection 6. At this intersection, continue straight, now along a ravine of a tributary, gaining elevation. You'll pass intersection 5 (a crossing trail), and continue climbing all the way to the Old Road trail.

Cross the old road and continue climbing until you near the park boundary. A quick dip down brings you to intersection 12, but continue straight. You'll continue on a recent bench cut to replace a fall line section down to a creek. You still cross the creek, and on the other side, follow a pleasant winding singletrack back down to the Old Road at intersection 3. The trail appears to go straight, but that is actually the Upper Hunters Creek Trail. Instead, take a quick right then left to a singletrack dropping down the hill.

After passing through intersection 11, the trail curves right to follow a small ridge that was probably an old farmer's field edge, since overgrown. When it reaches a creek flowing from right to left, the trail cuts left on one side of the creek's ditch, and then crosses to the other side before continuing on downhill back to the parking lot.
