Need to Know

Use caution on the narrow, off camber sections and look out for the sharp tendrils of the numerous agave plants.

Description

This trail is best accessed off the Greenhouse Creek doubletrack. Just after crossing Greenhouse Creek on the uphill climb toward the Wilderness Boundary, you'll see a trail sign and singletrack trail on the right hand side of Greenhouse trail. This is the beginning of Basin #600.

Turn onto the singletrack and enjoy the relatively easy first three quarters of a mile. After that, the trail will narrow in several sections and give way to a few high consequence, off camber sections. Be careful as the edges of these sections are slick and prone to collapse. A wrong move may have you tumbling off the side of the mountain. Additionally, there are several overgrown agave plants along the trail that could easily impale you with their long, sharp spines.

Eventually, you'll reach a steep, extended climb. This will likely involve some hike a bike as you make your way over the ridge line. Eventually, you'll be going downhill and the trail is generally a bit more open on this section as you make your way toward the North Fork of Cave Creek.

You'll need to cross the creek at the bottom of the downhill section, but take a minute or two to appreciate a small waterfall in a rocky trough just upstream from where the trail crosses. A very short segment of trail will take you up a hill to your left onto a makeshift campground. From there, you should see the waterfall.

Take a few pictures and enjoy the ambiance before going back to the crossing and continuing with your adventure. After crossing the creek, the trail will widen and you can keep following it to the road.
