Description

Where Forest Road 54C makes a right turn continue straight onto 54E. At .08 miles, pass another road branching to the right and ride into the forest a short ways to a parking lot—check out the signs detailing the area's mining history with several old pictures from when Midnight Meadows was a booming mining town.

While the road is technically open to motorized use, it is blocked past the parking area by large boulders. Beyond there it continues down the slope into Bitter Creek. Look for remnants of an old cabin and across the creek is the old mill structure at the entrance to the Edison Mine, believed to also be what was known as the Anchor Mine. From here you can access a few other trails, including a descent down to the town of Red River alongside Bitter Creek to Forest Road 77.
