Description
This doubletrack trail climbs through moderately steep and loose shale rock with some less loose and less steep sections mixed in. Starting from the Brúnavík trailhead, you go through a country gate (remember to close it after!) and start climbing in the direction of Mt. Svartfell (a looming, Mordor-like mountain).
It is quite steep for the most part (and loose!) until you get to the big left turn, where it mellows out a little bit. You start climbing in the hillside, and it gets steeper again until you reach the top of the mountain pass. From there, you have the choice of descending down into the lush valley of Brúnavík or turning back.
When descending, be mindful of the terrain as it is quite loose. Making turns can be difficult and there are no berms.
