The reservoir trails are open from sunrise to sunset. The main trail is primarily used by bikers, but the protected environment area trails are strictly prohibited to bikes.

Description

This trail is part of Loch Raven Reservoir in Batimore County. All along the trail there are branch trails that go along the water, but they are clearly marked as being prohibited to bikers. Most of the hikers and runners stick to these. In this case, this is a branch trail that bikes are able to ride on (signage is clear in both cases).

The trail is primarily hilly forested terrain. The eastern trailhead is marked by a long steep technical climb of loose rocks and large roots. Once you pass that it is primarily shorter technical climbs followed by flowy downhill sections. The trail is very well-marked with white blazes, arrows and bike signs.

Most riders take this alternate route on the return to the main trailhead.
