Overview

This ride follows a steady climb up the Bear Creek Trail and the Crawfish Horse Trail, before dropping down for a fun out-and-back spur. From the climb back out the ride continues through rolling terrain before the final plunge back to the start. This ride is usually wet with some great creek crossings and difficult rock gardens. Don't expect to leave with dry feet.

Need to Know

There is a cool beaver dam about 3.0 miles in.

Description

This trail starts off pretty easy on Bear Creek Trail. Expect several creek crossings in the beginning. Keep riding and creek crossing until you come to a major intersection with the Crawfish Horse Trail.

You can choose to make the loop smaller here and loose the out-and-back on the Crawfish Horse Trail. But since the best part of the trail is ahead, you should continue. Head up the Crawfish Horse Trail to the right and begin a fun section of climbs and fun descents. You'll eventually meet with the Appalachian Trail, keep in mind there is no mountain biking on this trail so be sure to continue back on to Crawish after the AT.

Where you come to a fork with the Walker Mountain Trail, stay right to continue on Crawfish. You'll eventually come to a large clearing in the forest where it is time to turn around. Take the same way back, but head west on the Newman Hallow Road (FSR #6261) where it intersects. This old roadbed is frequently grown in with singletrack carved through it. It's a slow climb up to Davis Path Road where you'll descend to FSR #6251 for a quick gravel grind back to where you left your car.
