Description
This 3.25-mile loop is worth checking out if you are in the area. It is part of the Talkeetna Lakes Trails system.
This trailhead is located off S. Comstat Rd. The trail system connects to another trailhead off Whigmi Rd. The rest of the trails in this area are nordic ski trails and are wide and grassy in the summer—rideable but not as fun as this loop. The full trail system contains about eight miles of trail. The trails are well marked with colored wood posts that correspond to the color of the trail on the maps. Trail maps are available at both trailheads.
The X Loop trail is a doubletrack with lazy turns and some long ascents and descents. The trail can be slick after a rain or in the fall when covered in leaves. There are several excellent stopping points that offer access to the lake.
