  • The Teklanika River can be extremely hazardous to cross. Without a raft, it is often uncrossable during midsummer and it still can be difficult in September when the river level is typically lower.
  • West of the Teklanika River crossing, the trail track is an approximation. Be prepared for route finding and backcountry travel.

Description

This OHV trail starts at the end of Stampede Road and travels west to eventually enter Denali National Park. There are countless campsites along the way with numerous stream and puddle crossings, so expect wet feet.

The trail crosses Fish Creek many times. After Fish Creek, the trail opens and gets boggy but the side trails are worse. After the boggy section, the trail continues back into the trees and around a beaver pond. At mile 7.5, the trail crosses the Savage River which is normally knee deep. Continuing on the trail you enter the park.

The Teklanika River is at mile 10. If the water is low enough and you are skilled in route finding, the trail continues past the Teklanika River. This trail can be done with a normal mountain bike but would be more enjoyable with a fat tire bike.

Expect it to take anywhere from 4 to 9 hours to ride to the Teklanika River and back. This trail is in the backcountry so be safe, cell phones won't work.
