  • This trail is on an active military installation. Members of the public will need to obtain a photo ID pass from the main gate of Fort Huachuca to access the facility and this trail. The process requires a background check and typically takes at least 30 minutes to secure a pass that's valid for 30 days.
  • Possible restrictions due to bear and mountain lion sightings. Some trails located on post are restricted due to live fire and military exercises.

Description

From the trailhead, follow the road up for two miles to an open rock face and reservoir that precede the last picnic area. Ahead, look for an easy spot to cross a perennial stream to the singletrack path beyond. Take this path up for another mile to a fork in the trail.

Head right to follow an old road that's dotted with small river rocks and larger boulders. Traversing these rocks can get kind of difficult, especially if there's water present. After another mile, there's a final fork in the trail. The Huachuca Loop Trail begins on the left while the trail continues right, leading toward other trails.

Watch out for bears, mountain lions, and deer as they frequently close access to the canyon due to sightings.
