Description

An urban jewel, nestled on the Red Mountain hillside, awaits you. This singletrack oasis is located on private land, so please stop by the visitor center/front desk to obtain a membership or day pass. It is open to runners, hikers, dog walkers, mountain bikers, etc.

The trail was built exclusively by a team of volunteers whose efforts were led by Linda and Jack McDuffee. They were able to squeeze in almost 5 miles of natural, narrow singletrack that will present you a fitness and bike handling challenge.

Typically, the trail is either loved or hated by first time users. The uphill switchbacks are easier navigated with higher entry speed. It is considered single-speed friendly, but perhaps with an easier gear ratio.

Trees are marked with blue painted blazes. Expect roots, occasional embedded boulders, and loose gravelly chert tread. The tread ensures that the trail is well draining, and the close location makes this great for night riding. Intermediate bike handling technique is required for your enjoyment.

The "long side" is the eastern half, and the "short side" is the western half. Travel is unrestricted on this bidirectional trail, with two way traffic possible. Use caution when coming around sharp corners, and be sure to yield the right of way if necessary.

Several unmarked intersections leave the property, so stick to the blue blazes/GPS track, ride with a local, or be prepared to explore several more miles of hand built "microtrack" on the private lands adjacent to the LJCC.
